Remote Download

Remote Download is one of SonicBit's most powerful features. It allows you to download files directly to your SonicBit storage without using your local device's bandwidth or storage.

What is Remote Download?

Remote Download uses SonicBit's high-speed servers to fetch files from the internet on your behalf. This means:

  1. Files download at server speeds (often much faster than your home connection)
  2. Downloads continue even when you're offline
  3. Files are stored directly in your SonicBit account
  4. Your local device doesn't use bandwidth or storage during the download

This feature is especially useful for large files, slow connections, or when you want to access the file from multiple devices later.

Key Benefits

  • Speed: Server-grade connections often download faster than residential internet
  • Convenience: Start downloads from anywhere, access files from any device
  • Efficiency: Save your local bandwidth and battery life
  • Multitasking: Download multiple files simultaneously without affecting your browsing experience
  • Reliability: No need to worry about disconnections, power outages, or device limitations

Supported Sources

SonicBit's Remote Download feature supports various source types:

Direct URLs and Protocols

ProtocolSupport LevelDetails
HTTP/HTTPSFull supportStandard web URLs for direct file downloads

Note: Currently, the dashboard interface only supports HTTP and HTTPS protocols. FTP URLs are not supported in the web interface as verified in the URL validation code.

Premium File Hosts

SonicBit supports a wide range of premium file hosting services:

  • Automatic Detection: System recognizes URLs from supported file hosts
  • Premium Access: Provides high-speed access to supported hosting services
  • Enhanced Capabilities: Additional file host support for higher-tier plans

When you submit a URL from a supported file host, SonicBit will automatically process it for you and store the file in your account.

Premium file host support is available only to paid plan subscribers, giving you high-speed access to files from numerous popular hosting services.

How to Add a Remote Download

Adding a download in SonicBit is simple:

  1. Navigate to the My Drive section
  2. Click the Add button in the top menu
  3. Select Remote Download Task from the dropdown
  4. Enter the URL of the file you want to download
  5. Choose the destination folder where you want to save the file

The interface will validate your URL before submission to ensure it's properly formatted and accessible.

  • The system supports most standard web URLs and file hosting services
  • You can view the list of supported file hosts by clicking on the "supported file hosts" link in the add dialog

Managing Downloads

Once your downloads are in progress, you can manage them through the task management interface.

Viewing Download Status

You can view and manage your downloads through the Task List interface:

  1. Access the Task List: Click the list icon in the sticky toolbar on the right side of the screen
  2. View Download Progress: Each download shows a progress bar with completion percentage
  3. Check Download Details: Each download entry displays:
    • File name
    • Download progress bar
    • Date added
    • Destination folder (hover over the folder icon)
    • Source information (with file host icon for premium hosts)
    • Estimated time remaining (ETA) when available
    • Error messages if there are any issues

Downloads are color-coded for easy identification:

  • Clock icon: Queued downloads waiting to start
  • Cloud icon: In-progress downloads
  • Check mark: Completed downloads

Download Actions

For each download in your task list, you can:

  • Retry: If a download is stuck, click "Retry" to restart it
  • Delete: Remove a download by clicking the X icon
  • Delete Completed: Clean up your list by removing all completed downloads at once

Background Processing

Downloads continue even when you're not logged in:

  • Your downloads will continue processing on SonicBit servers
  • The system handles connection issues automatically
  • Completed downloads are moved to your specified destination folder
  • You'll see notifications when downloads complete or if there are issues

Task Monitoring

The system automatically monitors your downloads and provides:

  • Success Notifications: Alerts when downloads complete successfully
  • Error Notifications: Information about failed downloads with error details
  • Status Updates: Regular status updates to track progress

Plan-Based Limitations

Your subscription plan affects what you can do with Remote Download:

  • Download Speed: Higher-tier plans offer faster download speeds
  • Simultaneous Downloads: Each plan allows a different number of downloads at the same time
  • Premium File Hosts: Access to premium file hosting services is only available on paid plans
  • Feature Availability: Some basic plans may not include Remote Download at all

If you need to download more files at once or want faster speeds, consider upgrading your plan.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with Remote Download, here are some common solutions:

Download Fails Immediately

  • Verify the URL is valid and publicly accessible
  • Check that you have sufficient storage space remaining
  • Ensure the file type is supported by the system
  • Some file hosts may require premium access
  • Check if there are specific host limitations or restrictions

Slow Download Speeds

  • File host may have speed limitations for non-premium users
  • Server load might affect performance during peak hours
  • Your plan may have bandwidth limitations (consider upgrading)
  • Some hosts throttle connections based on location or time of day

Download Stuck at a Percentage

  • Try using the "Retry" function to restart the download
  • The file host may be experiencing temporary issues
  • For premium file hosts, authentication might have expired
  • Check the error message for specific information

File Not Found After Download

  • Check your selected destination folder
  • Use the search function in My Drive to locate the file
  • Verify the download completed successfully in your task history
  • Ensure the file wasn't moved by another process
note

Remote downloads count against your storage quota. Make sure you have enough available space before starting large downloads.
