Seedbox is a premium feature in SonicBit that allows you to download torrents directly to your SonicBit storage without using your local device's bandwidth or storage. It provides a comprehensive torrent management solution with advanced features for control and automation.

History and Evolution​

The seedbox feature is SonicBit's foundational offering, dating back to the platform's initial launch in 2016 when it was known as "SonicSeedbox." At first, it focused exclusively on torrent downloading (leeching) without seeding capabilities or file management features.

As the platform evolved, it expanded beyond its seedbox roots to become a comprehensive cloud storage solution with multiple features, including remote upload/download, My Drive file management, and a growing library of over 40 applications.

While SonicBit now offers a much broader range of services, the seedbox remains a core feature, now positioned as an app within the platform's ecosystem. The Seedbox app is:

  • Enabled by default for all users
  • Quickly accessible via the Apps dropdown in the header navigation
  • Fully integrated with other SonicBit features like cloud storage

This integration allows you to download torrents directly to your SonicBit storage and then use those files with any of the platform's other applications or features.

What is a Seedbox?​

A seedbox is a high-speed remote server optimized for torrenting. SonicBit's seedbox feature provides:

  1. High-speed downloads (much faster than typical home connections)
  2. 24/7 downloading and seeding even when you're offline
  3. Privacy protection by separating your home IP from torrent activity
  4. Access to downloaded content from any device through SonicBit
  5. Advanced torrent management features

This feature is particularly valuable for downloading large files, maintaining healthy seed ratios, and accessing content from anywhere.

Using the Seedbox​

SonicBit's seedbox interface provides comprehensive torrent management capabilities from the dashboard.

Adding Torrents​

You can add torrents to your seedbox in several ways:

  1. Upload Torrent Files:

    • Click the "+" button in the torrent interface
    • Upload a .torrent file from your device
    • Select destination folder and start preferences

  2. Add by URL:

    • Click the "+" button in the torrent interface
    • Paste magnet links or torrent URLs
    • Configure download options and destination

Managing Torrents​

The torrent management interface displays all your torrents with detailed information:

  • Status Information: Shows download progress, speed, ratio, and status (downloading, seeding, stopped)
  • Torrent Type: Indicates whether torrents are public or private
  • Speed Data: Displays current download and upload speeds
  • File Size: Shows the total size of each torrent
  • Date Added: Records when each torrent was added to your seedbox
  • Ratio: Tracks the upload/download ratio for each torrent

Torrent Actions​

For each torrent, you can perform various actions:

  • Start/Stop: Control when torrents download or seed
  • Delete: Remove torrents (with option to keep or delete downloaded files)
  • File Priority: Set download priorities for individual files within torrents
  • View Details: See comprehensive information about each torrent
  • View Trackers: Monitor connected trackers and their status

Bulk Operations​

You can perform actions on multiple torrents simultaneously:

  1. Select multiple torrents using the checkboxes
  2. Use the action buttons to start, stop, or delete selected torrents
  3. Select/deselect all torrents using the dropdown menu

File Management​

Within each torrent, you can manage individual files:

  • Priority Settings: Choose whether to download files and set their priorities (normal or high)
  • Preview Media: Preview images directly in the interface
  • Play Audio: Stream audio files directly from the interface
  • Download Files: Download completed files to your local device
  • Copy Links: Get direct links to share files
  • Search: Search within torrent contents to find specific files

Seedbox and My Drive Integration​

The SonicBit platform integrates the seedbox functionality with its file storage system through the My Drive interface. This integration provides a seamless experience for managing downloaded torrent content.

My Drive Interface​

Located directly beneath the seedbox torrent listing, the My Drive interface allows you to:

  • Browse all files downloaded through the seedbox
  • Organize your files into folders
  • Preview media files directly in the browser
  • Share files with others
  • Perform file operations (copy, move, rename, delete)

Accessing Downloaded Content​

When you download a torrent through the seedbox:

  1. The completed files automatically appear in your My Drive storage
  2. Files are stored in the destination folder you selected when adding the torrent
  3. Large torrents with multiple files are kept organized in their original folder structure

File Management Features​

The My Drive interface provides several ways to manage your downloaded content:

  • File Browsing: Navigate through folder hierarchies with breadcrumb navigation
  • Preview: View images, play audio/video, and preview documents directly in the browser
  • Searching: Find files by name, type, or content across your entire storage
  • Sorting: Organize files by name, size, type, or date modified
  • Bulk Operations: Select multiple files to move, copy, or delete them at once

Storage Management​

My Drive provides tools to help you manage your storage allocation:

  • Storage usage indicators show how much of your quota is being used
  • File size information helps identify large files that are consuming space
  • Sorting by size lets you quickly find the largest files in your storage

Working with Downloaded Media​

For media files downloaded through the seedbox, My Drive offers:

Filtering and Sorting​

Status Filtering​

The interface includes filter buttons that allow you to quickly view torrents by their current status:

  • All: Shows all torrents regardless of status
  • Completed (c): Shows only torrents that have finished downloading (100%)
  • Downloading (d): Shows torrents that are actively downloading data
  • Stopped (s): Shows torrents that have been manually stopped
  • Seeding (sd): Shows torrents that are actively uploading to peers
  • Active (a): Shows torrents with any active data transfer (download or upload)
  • Inactive (i): Shows torrents without current activity

Each filter button displays a count showing how many torrents match that status. You can switch between filters with a single click to quickly find the torrents you want to manage.

Torrent Status Indicators​

Individual torrents may display multiple status indicators simultaneously:

  • Checking (ch): Verifying downloaded data integrity
  • Seeding (sd): Uploading data to other peers
  • Paused (p): Temporarily paused
  • Completed (c): Download finished
  • Downloading (d): Actively downloading data
  • Stopped (s): Manually stopped
  • Warning (e): Issues detected
  • Inactive (i): No current activity
  • Active (a): Has active connections

Sorting Options​

You can sort your torrents by various criteria:

  • Name: Alphabetically by torrent name
  • Percent Complete: By download completion percentage
  • Size: By total size of the torrent
  • Date Added: By when the torrent was added to your seedbox
  • Ratio: By seed ratio (upload/download)
  • Download Speed: By current download speed
  • Upload Speed: By current upload speed

Search Functionality​

The search feature allows you to quickly find torrents by:

  • Torrent name
  • Hash identifier
  • Type ("public" or "private")

Detailed Torrent Information​

Each torrent provides extensive details:

  • Completion Percentage: Visual progress bar and percentage display
  • Peer Information: Number of connected peers
  • Seed Information: Number of available seeds
  • Upload Statistics: Total data uploaded and ratio
  • ETA: Estimated time to completion for downloading torrents
  • Tracker List: Complete list of trackers associated with the torrent

File Details and Actions​

For individual files within torrents:

Plan-Based Limitations​

Your subscription plan affects your seedbox capabilities:

  • Storage Space:

    • Free accounts receive 4GB of storage
    • Users referred through the referral program receive 6GB of storage
    • Paid plans offer larger storage capacities based on tier

  • Concurrent Downloads:

    • Free plans are limited to 2 concurrent torrent downloads
    • Free plans can have unlimited torrents in total
    • Paid plans allow more concurrent downloads depending on tier

  • Seeding Capabilities:

    • Seeding functionality is disabled for free seedbox plans
    • Paid plans include full seeding capabilities

  • Seedbox Restart Feature:

    • The seedbox restart feature is not available for free plans
    • All paid plans include the seedbox restart feature with a daily limit of 40 restarts

  • Feature Availability:

    • Some advanced features are only available on paid plans
    • Premium plans have access to additional optimization options

Torrent Addition and Initialization Problems​

Users commonly face two related issues with adding torrents:

  1. Torrents Not Showing After Adding: The torrent fails to appear in your list after uploading or adding by URL
  2. Torrents Stuck at "Hash Metadata" Stage: The torrent appears but remains stuck in the metadata stage without starting the actual download

Common Causes​

These issues typically occur due to:

  • Seedbox Service Status: The underlying seedbox service may not be running properly
  • Storage Quota: You may have reached your storage limit
  • Invalid Torrent Files: The torrent file or magnet link may be corrupted or invalid
  • Tracker Issues: The tracker may be down, overloaded, or blocking connections
  • No Available Seeds: There might not be any active seeds for the torrent
  • Network Connectivity: The seedbox might have connectivity issues with specific peers or trackers
  • Plan Limitations: You may have reached your concurrent download limit
  • DHT/PEX Settings: If the torrent relies on DHT or PEX for peer discovery, these protocols may be disabled

Step-by-Step Resolution​

Follow these steps in order to resolve torrent addition and initialization issues:

  1. Check Seedbox Status

    • Verify that your seedbox is active by looking at the status indicator in the top-right corner of the seedbox interface
    • If it shows "Inactive," you need to restart the service

  2. Restart Your Seedbox (Paid Plans Only)

    • Click the settings icon in the seedbox interface and select "Restart Seedbox"
    • This restarts the entire seedbox service and often resolves most connection issues
    • Note that free plans do not have access to the restart feature

  3. Verify Storage Space

    • Check that you have sufficient storage space available for the torrent
    • Free accounts have 4GB limit (6GB for referred users)

  4. Check Plan Limitations

    • Ensure you haven't reached your concurrent download limit (2 for free plans)
    • Consider stopping other downloads if needed

  5. Retry Adding the Torrent

    • If the torrent didn't appear at all, try adding it again
    • Make sure the torrent file or magnet link is valid

  6. For Stuck Torrents

    • Stop and start the torrent multiple times
    • Check the tracker list in torrent details to see if trackers are responding
    • Enable DHT and UDP protocols in advanced settings (if available on your plan)
    • Delete the torrent and add it again as a last resort

  7. Find Alternative Sources

    • Look for another torrent file or magnet link from a different source
    • Check external torrent sites to verify that the torrent has active seeds and peers

  8. Be Patient

    • Some torrents may take time to connect to the network
    • This is especially true for torrents with few seeds or those using DHT for peer discovery

Slow Download Speeds​

  • Check if the torrent has enough seeds
  • Try a different network interface in the seedbox settings
  • Consider upgrading your plan for higher speed limits
  • Network congestion may occur during peak hours

Connection Issues​
