App Hosting & Resource Plans
What is App Hosting in SonicBit?
App Hosting is a premium feature that allows you to install and run various applications directly on SonicBit's infrastructure. As explained in our App Hosting documentation, this feature transforms your account from simple cloud storage into a versatile application platform.
Key aspects include:
- Installing applications from the SonicBit App Store
- Running applications with dedicated computing resources
- Managing applications through the Apps interface
- Accessing applications from any device through your SonicBit account
App Hosting requires a Resource plan, which provides the necessary CPU, RAM, and specialized storage to run applications.
What are Resource Plans and why do I need one?
Resource plans provide the dedicated computing resources needed to run applications from the App Store. According to our App Hosting documentation, these resources include:
- CPU Cores: Processing power to run application code
- RAM: Memory for applications to function properly
- App Storage: Dedicated storage space for application files
- Network Bandwidth: Data transfer capacity for application operations
Unlike basic file storage that only requires disk space, running applications needs these computing resources. Resource plans are separate from your storage plans and are specifically designed for application hosting.
What Resource Plan tiers are available?
SonicBit offers nine Resource plan tiers, as detailed in our App Hosting documentation:
- Entry-Level (Ray, Bit): Starting from $3.95/month with 2 CPU cores, 2-4GB RAM
- Mid-Range (Shift, Flit, Flux): $9.45-$15.95/month with 4-6 CPU cores, 4-6GB RAM
- High-Performance (Spark, Flare, Blaze, Quartz): $19.95-$49.95/month with 6-8 CPU cores, 8-12GB RAM
Each tier offers progressively more resources to accommodate different application needs, from simple tools to complex media servers and development environments.
How do I install and manage applications?
To install and manage applications:
- Navigate to the Apps section in the SonicBit dashboard
- Browse the App Store tab to find applications
- Click on an app to view details and click "Install"
- If you don't have a Resource plan, you'll be prompted to get one
- Once installed, you can start, stop, configure, and access your applications
The Apps interface provides real-time status updates and comprehensive management tools as described in our Apps documentation.
Can I run multiple applications with one Resource plan?
Yes, a single Resource plan can run multiple applications based on your resource limits. As explained in our App Hosting documentation:
- Each application consumes a portion of your allocated resources
- The system monitors resource usage to prevent overloading
- Higher-tier Resource plans can support more applications running simultaneously
- Applications have different resource intensity ratings (1-5) that indicate how much resources they need
You can monitor resource usage through the dashboard to ensure your current plan meets your needs.
What happens to my apps if my Resource plan expires?
If your Resource plan expires:
- Your applications will be automatically stopped but remain installed
- You'll see notifications in the Apps interface about the expired plan
- You won't be able to start applications until you renew or purchase a new Resource plan
- Application data remains intact during this period (typically for 14 days)
- Once you renew your Resource plan, you can start your applications again with all data preserved
After an extended period without renewal (typically 14-30 days), application data may be removed from the system. To avoid this, renew your Resource plan promptly if you want to continue using your applications.
What happens to my Resource plan if my storage plan expires?
If your main storage plan expires:
- You will lose access to your Resource plan and hosted applications
- All applications will be automatically stopped
- You won't be able to manage or access your applications through the dashboard
- Application data remains preserved during the grace period (typically 14 days)
- Once you renew your storage plan, you'll regain access to your Resource plan and applications
Your Resource plan is tied to your main account status. Even if you have an active Resource plan subscription, you need an active storage plan to access and use your applications.
How does App Hosting integrate with my existing storage?
App Hosting integrates seamlessly with your existing SonicBit storage:
- File Access: Many applications can directly access files stored in your SonicBit storage
- Media Streaming: Media server applications can stream content directly from your storage
- Content Management: File management applications can organize and manipulate your storage content
- Development: Development tools can edit files stored in your account
As described in our App Hosting documentation, this integration creates a complete ecosystem where your applications and data work together seamlessly. For example, you can:
- Install Plex Media Server to stream videos stored in your SonicBit drive
- Use code editors to modify documents in your storage
- Set up content management systems that organize your files
- Run file converters that process content from your storage
The integration eliminates the need to transfer files between storage and applications, creating a more efficient workflow.
